VPN Router
RF- Virtual Routing and Forwarding originated from the vendor Cisco Systems. These routers have multiple instances of a routing table co-existing within the same router at the same time.
Functionality is increased by allowing segmented network paths. This segmentation would mean that the packets from a single source are sent on different paths thus eliminating the need for encryption or authentication. These routing instances are independent of each other and may contain the same IP addresses. This is possible in two ways. One way is configuring several virtual routers within the same device/module /CLI. The second is having several distinct routing tables for the router. Cisco Routers, VPN's are adapting to the logical routing that the VRF does i.e. governing how the packet is forwarded. The routing table prevents the packets from being forwarded outside a specific VRF path and does not allow outside traffic along this path.
