Virtual Private Networks: Good or Bad for BusinessesWhile virtual private networks or VPNs have both pros and cons it is entirely up to the company as to whether or not they will use a VPN for their business needs. For some the pros of a VPN may outweigh the negative aspects and a company may choose to use a VPN. Consider just a few of the majors pros and cons to decide if you should look further into getting a VPN for your business. There are three primary limitations to consider when you are choosing a traditional VPN. The first of these limitations is the footprints of the service providers' network. Second is the issue of getting quality service from applications over VPNs. Finally the last major issue to consider is the internet connection restrictions that give access to the VPN. However, individuals must keep in mind that most of these limitations come from VPNs that are offered as a one size type system. Many companies can request that their VPN be tailored to meet their specific needs which can often eliminate many of these limitations or at the very least reduce them to the point that is won't effect business operations. Then there comes some major benefits of a VPN. Any business can find at least one benefit to having a VPN. However, one of the biggest comes from companies being able to get work done even on days when snow prevents employees from coming into work. To do this a company should have a set plan of what to do in such an emergency. The plan should be set in motion when the boss calls in the morning which what work should be done by which employees. This way the work will still get done and employees will be able to stay home and take care of their families during such occasions. |
