Zhejiang Telecom Deploys Juniper Routers

E320 broadband service routers and T- series core routers that can be used for IP television and other multiplay service have been deployed by Zhejiang Telecom China. These routers are from Juniper Networks for a unique MPLS based point to Multipoint capability on the T-series deployed by Zhejiang.

This will dramatically improve the efficiency of video distribution in the core network. It also reduces network congestion and associated costs. Zhejiang's long-term IPTV strategy led it to select the E- and T-series as critical components for its robust handling of a mix of services that can be operated through the service provider's network.

Juniper's vice president of Greater China, Eric Yu said that QoS and fast failover are critical requirements that are provided by Juniper's end-to-end solution which can be scaled to meet future needs. Zhejiang Telecom plans advanced IP services like high-speed broadband applications and modem-based virtual private dial-up network (VPDN) services. It already has deployed Juniper E- and M-series platforms since 2001 the new and existing platforms provide consistent operating systems and upgrades to their network.

Juniper Networks E- and T-series uniquely combines the best-in-class IP/MPLS capabilities. The E320, configurations can be either 100 Gbps or 320 Gbps of capacity. With industry-leading capacity the E320 is the ideal choice for service providers like Zhejiang to provide multiplay services such as IPTV to an larger customer base.

T-series from Juniper has been shipped since April 2002 and is presently the most proven core routing platform in the industry with 2000 units deployed so far in customer networks worldwide. Its superior P2MP video distribution capabilities allow service providers to scale to multi-terabit rates non-disruptively. Many other features make the T-series an ideal core platform especially for large scale IPTV.

Yu said that the ability to deliver IPTV efficiently and reliably through both the core and the edge of the IP network is critical to the success of large-scale IPTV and multiplay traffic deployments. Service providers like Zhejiang Telecom need a reliable, scalable, high performance network. They recognize that they need to build the next-generation multiplay IP services that include IPTV for better revenues. The E- and T-series will provide Zhejiang with this scalability, flexibility and reliability that is required for China's vast and growing market.
