Integrated Tunnel-Less VPN Technology LaunchedA new VPN technology that does away with point to point tunneling on Cisco's integrated services routers has been unveiled. Tunnel less transport is reported to lower latency rates for voice and video applications. This improves the performance of voice and video applications in large networks.As a means to popularize its technology Cisco announced its intention to work with standard bodies, especially Group Encrypted transport (GET) to standardize its technology that allows secure transport of data in a variety of WAN environments. A few other additions to its integrated service routers include a change of the throughout from 40 Mbps to 100 Mbps, integration of Wide Area Application Services Technology for increased WAN capacity, and the inclusion of Network Analysis Module that helps in analysis of traffic conditions and performance. Routers to connect to broadband cables are another innovation that can speed up VPN connections for branch offices. In case of setting up a branch office Cisco provides you the option of choosing GET- Group Encryption Technology or else you could use the normal approach of VPN connection in case of multiple layers of security . The sales of Cisco's ISR's have crossed the 2 million mark. Cisco presently accounts for 90% of the branch routers which is valued at seven billion dollars world wide. The Network Analysis Module is priced at $4,495 ad will be available in the first quarter of 2007. The GET VPN is a new feature in Cisco's IOS 12.4 software that is loaded on the new integrated services routers. |
