PPTPPPTP or Point -to -Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) refers to a set communication rules or protocol which facilitates organizations to extend their own corporate network via private tunnels over the public network. Usually an organization makes use of a Wide Area Network (WAN) as a single large local area network. An organization also does not need to lease its own lines for wide area communication anymore. On the other hand, it can use the public networks with increased security. This interconnection is known as Virtual Private Network or VPN.PPTP is the proposed standard and is sponsored by Microsoft and other companies. It is one of the most likely proposals among many others .It is also the basis for a new Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard. PPTP is just an extension of the internet's Point -to -Point Protocol (PPP). With the use PPP client support, any PC user can use an Independent Service Provider (ISP) for connecting securely to a server somewhere else in the user's company. More Terms Explained Here... |
